A murder investigation has been launched after a 40-year-old man was shot dead in East Acton, west London, while a group of people were attending a memorial service.
Police were called shortly before 7:50pm on Friday, 2 October, after members of the public reported hearing multiple gunshots near the junction of Braybrook Street and Erconwald Street.
Officers attended the scene alongside the London Ambulance Service. Despite efforts by medical staff, the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Metropolitan Police said the victim's family has been informed and is receiving support from specialist officers. A post-mortem examination is due to take place, while police believe the man suffered a gunshot wound.
Detectives said between 40 and 50 people, including children, were present for a memorial service when the shooting happened.
Detective Chief Inspector Brian Howie, who is leading the investigation, described the death as a “senseless act of violence” and appealed to anyone who witnessed something suspicious to contact police.
Investigators are particularly interested in information from people who were around Braybrook Street, Erconwald Street, nearby roads or Wormwood Scrubs playground between 6pm and 8pm.
Police are also asking for photographs, mobile phone footage, dashcam recordings, doorbell footage or relevant social-media material that could help establish what happened.
