A coroner has ruled that three sisters from west London who were found dead in the sea off Brighton died by suicide.
Jane Adetoro, 36, Christina Walters, 32, and Rebecca Walters, 31, were found in the sea near Brighton on 13 May 2026 after emergency services were called at around 5:45am.
An inquest at Woodvale Coroner's Court heard that the sisters had travelled together to Birmingham shortly before their deaths, visiting an area near where their mother had died in 2010.
The sisters later travelled to Brighton, arriving near the seafront on the evening of 12 May. Investigators reviewed hundreds of hours of CCTV and spoke to witnesses while tracing their movements.
A post-mortem examination confirmed that all three women died from drowning. Investigators found no evidence of violence, criminality or third-party involvement, and Sussex Police previously said its investigation had found no evidence that another person was responsible for their deaths.
Senior Coroner Penelope Schofield concluded that the sisters had intended to end their lives. She said the women had lived very private lives and that the reasons behind their decision might never be known.
The inquest also heard that Christina Walters had experienced anxiety and depression following the death of her mother. However, the court did not establish a definitive explanation for why all three sisters died together.
Their father, Joseph Jacobson, attended the hearing by video link and paid tribute to his daughters, describing the loss of all three as an unimaginable heartbreak.
Sussex Police said its investigation had been thorough and that the case had now passed to the coroner's process. The force has also asked that the family be given privacy as they continue to grieve.
