The UK economy performed better than previously estimated during the second quarter of 2026, according to revised figures from the Office for National Statistics.

Economic output increased by 0.5% between April and June, compared with the earlier estimate of 0.4%.

The updated figures also place the UK as the fastest-growing economy among the G7 during the first half of 2026. 0

Growth was supported by activity across several parts of the economy, including services, manufacturing and construction.

Business investment also recorded a strong increase, while household disposable income rose during the second quarter.

GDP per person increased by 1.1% during the first half of the year, according to the latest figures.

However, economists continue to watch inflation, energy costs and interest rates as potential challenges for the economy in the months ahead.

The stronger figures come shortly before the government's October Budget, which is expected to be closely watched by businesses, households and financial markets.

The ONS said the revised estimate uses additional information to provide a more detailed picture of economic activity than the initial figures.

Despite the stronger-than-expected performance, the outlook remains uncertain as businesses and consumers face continued cost pressures.
